ENGAGED BY: Latz & Company

REPORTS TO: Principal and Project Manager, Latz & Company

LOCATION: Remote

SCHEDULE: Contract Position 3 Days a Week, January through March 2027, with extension potential.

POSITION SUMMARY

Latz & Company is seeking a detail-oriented, relationship-minded Associate to support a client engagement with a growing Chicago-area nonprofit. Working remotely, the Associate will manage gift processing and donor database work to keep donors connected and engaged, helping strengthen the systems and relationships that sustain the organization’s fundraising. The associate will become a key member of the fundraising team for the client, working closely alongside Latz and Company team members and client staff.

This is a contract position with growth potential. It is an excellent opportunity for an early-career development professional who wants hands-on experience in fundraising operations and is interested in a potential pathway to a full-time role. Candidates seeking longer-term, full-time opportunities are strongly encouraged to apply.

ABOUT THE ENGAGEMENT

Our client is a well-established Chicago-area human services nonprofit in a period of measured growth, which includes expanding its development and communications department. The Associate will join the client’s development team at a pivotal moment, taking on direct management of the gift processing and donor acknowledgement systems. They will also ensure donor records are clean and reliable, and general stewardship and engagement processes continue to strengthen as the organization grows.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Database & Gift Processing

  • Process and record charitable gifts accurately and promptly, including year-end annual fund gifts, major gifts, matching gifts, tribute gifts, planned gifts, grants, and event revenue.

  • Generate gift acknowledgments and donor tax receipts, including year-end giving statements, in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Manage and maintain the integrity and accuracy of donor data across Raiser’s Edge, Blackbaud, and Excel, including records for donors, prospects, foundations, corporations, board members, and volunteers.

  • Lead database cleanup projects such as merging duplicate records, updating contact information, and standardizing gift and appeal coding.

  • Support reconciliation of fundraising records with the client’s development leadership and finance staff.

  • Prepare gift reports, donor lists, mailing lists, and fundraising analytics as requested.

  • Document gift processing and data entry procedures to support consistency and continuity for the development team.

Donor Stewardship

  • Coordinate timely, personalized stewardship for donors, including thank-you calls, written notes, and impact updates.

  • Track stewardship activity and donor touchpoints in the database so that every relationship has a clear history.

  • Manage tribute, honor, and memorial gift notifications and support donor recognition listings.

  • Help identify lapsed and at-risk donors and support re-engagement outreach.

  • Assist with stewardship and campaign communications, including email outreach through Constant Contact.

  • Prepare donor briefings and prospect lists to support development leadership and board members ahead of meetings.

Engagement Support

  • Collaborate closely with Latz consultants and client staff, participating in regular virtual check-ins on engagement progress.

  • Support early planning for a spring fundraising event, including sponsor and registration tracking.

  • Provide administrative support to the client’s development leadership as needed.

  • Share observations and recommendations to strengthen data management and stewardship practices.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, especially with financial and donor data.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines during a high-volume period.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and a warm, donor-centered approach.

  • High level of professionalism and discretion when handling confidential information.

  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge, Blackbaud, and Excel (including sorting, filtering, and basic reporting).

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to work independently and stay organized in a fully remote environment, with reliable internet access.

  • Familiarity with Constant Contact, Canva, or similar platforms is a plus.

  • Ability to start in early January 2027 and commit to the full engagement period.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  • 2–4 years of experience in nonprofit development preferred in fundraising operations, database management, donor relations, or a related field.

  • Experience with gift processing, acknowledgments, and donor database management preferred.

  • Experience with donor stewardship or donor communications preferred.

COMPENSATION

This is a part-time independent contractor (1099) position with Latz & Company for an initial three-month term beginning in January 2027. Compensation is a flat fee of $2,400 to $2,700 per month, set according to experience. Contractors are responsible for their own taxes, and no benefits are provided during the contract term. Latz & Company manages recruiting and provides onboarding and training.

At the end of the three months, Latz & Company and the client organization will review the work together. Based on that review and the client’s needs and budget, the contract may be extended, or the client may invite the contractor to discuss a full-time, benefits-eligible position directly. The anticipated salary range for that position is $59,000 to $63,000 per year. An extension or full-time offer is possible but not guaranteed.
