Raydia Martin is a public interest lawyer and founder of Advocate Impact, a nonprofit consulting firm that educates 501(c)(3) organizations about the importance of lobbying for public policy changes that benefit vulnerable communities. Her mission is to encourage nonprofits to become involved in the legislative process and push for evidence-based policy solutions to society's most pressing social, economic, and public health issues.
Raydia began her public policy career as legislative research consultant for two national nonprofits, Shared Hope International and Polaris Project, where her research was the basis of successful initiatives to strengthen anti-human trafficking laws, promote criminal justice reform, and protect vulnerable children in the child welfare system. She eventually transitioned to her role as Lead Public Policy Research Advisor at the Drake Institute of Research and Public Policy, where she managed a team of researchers who conducted impact research on issues affecting women. She also wrote policy memos and policy briefs educating legislators on women's issues and urging them to support or oppose relevant policies. Before launching Advocate Impact, she was a legislative attorney for the Illinois Legislative Reference Bureau of the Illinois General Assembly, where she advised legislators on the legality of legislative proposals and drafted bills for introduction to the Illinois legislature.
As founder of Advocate Impact, Raydia uses her public policy experience to help nonprofits build successful lobbying initiatives, including initiatives advocating for increased government funding. Starting as a part-time consultant at Latz & Company in January 2023, Raydia's current projects for the firm include government grant proposal preparation for the National Black Theatre in New York, NY.
Raydia brings two degrees from Loyola University Chicago (Juris Doctorate 2015; Masters of Social Work, 2015) to Latz & Co. In her free time, she enjoys journaling, at-home DIY projects, and road tripping with her husband and three children.
